 Al Barif (Aladdinn/ Baskarifa )
Foundation Stallion (6/28/82-5/11/02)

Al Barif, known in his early days as The Bear, definitely lived up to his name. As the picture shows he was bold and robust. Most people stayed out of his pen and he was mostly handled by the previous owner. The one trainer that tried to show Bear, in halter, came out with his hands, pretty well, chewed up! So when I purchased Bear the first thing he needed to learn was respect for his human counterparts, especially his handler. This really didn't take that long. Deep inside, Bear was looking for a love affair with humans and other horses, but no one had asked him in the right way.

Al Barif became a very well mannered elderly stallion with more character than any other horse that I have. He was able to hang with his mares during breeding time and could also hang with his stud colts, if need be, during the off season. Al threw beautiful foals with great type, square legs and, of course, that incredible character seemed to come through loud and clear! Biting was his defense mechanism, partly because he was asked to be a bear, but before passing away The BEAR was asked to be AL and that's exactly who he was, Al Barif.

Al still had great spirit and had settled into the country life well.He wasn't the mountain mover like his son Meladdin, but you could put most any one on Al Barif and rest assured that all would go well. I think Al could have made a good western pleasure horse if we were more interested in the show world.

When folks, that new The Bear from the past, came by, they are always impressed with his great demeanor. Something they could not count  on in the past. Even our three year old son Taz could be found hanging on the fence next to Al , petting his nostrils !
